One Year In

None of us realized, when we first closed our museums in the face of what has become a global pandemic, that we would still be coping with the coronavirus crisis today.

It has been a year. A year since most of us began teleworking and home-schooling. A year since we had meetings or conferences that were not mainly virtual. A year since many of us had lunch with a colleague or got together with friends after work.

It has been a year. A year since most of us began teleworking and home-schooling. A year since we had meetings or conferences that were not mainly virtual. A year since many of us had lunch with a colleague or got together with friends after work.

We are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel, and I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you: our first-line workers who keep our staff, collections, and buildings safe; our teleworkers who have continued to support our mission under challenging circumstances; and every other member of this special community.

You are the Smithsonian. I am deeply grateful for all you have done and will continue to do.
