New leadership joins Office of Finance and and Accounting

Janice Lambert, the Smithsonian’s Chief Financial Officer, has announced two senior-level personnel changes within the CFO organization.

Jennifer Case will join the Smithsonian on July 19 no comma as the Smithsonian’s Controller (Director, Office of Finance and Accounting). Jennifer succeeds Vince DeVito, who served as the interim OF&A Director from March 2020 through June 2021.

“Jennifer has the experience and skills to strengthen the Smithsonian financially as well as enhance our financial, accounting, and internal control processes,” Lambert said. “She is a CPA with more than 15 years’ experience in controller and finance/accounting director roles at non-profit and for-profit organizations. Most recently, Jennifer served as the controller for the Archdiocese of Washington, responsible for its budget, financial, and accounting operations, including the preparation of the consolidated financial statements and completing six audits.  She has experience with trust and earned income funding sources, as well as state and local grants.”  

Jennifer Case holds a master’s degree in business administration in addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Miami.

“I would also like to thank Tova Jaffe for her leadership and support as acting OF&A Director,” Lambert continued. “Tovah seamlessly took on this assignment while continuing to effectively manage her treasury responsibilities.”

In addition, Mike Witbeck, a senior executive on detail from the Central Intelligence Agency, who will be supporting Lambert as a senior advisor on special projects.  “Mike brings extensive experience in federal budget and IT strategy, investment planning, and organizational governance,” Lambert said. “His previous leadership roles included Director of IT Services for the National Counterterrorism Center; Deputy Director for the CIA’s Office of the Executive Secretariat; Director of the Strategic Programs Division in the National Intelligence Chief Information Officer; and the CIA’s Chief of Central Services Support, where he managed a multi-billion dollar working capital fund that provides a variety of services to the agency and other elements of the federal government on a cost-reimbursable basis.”

Witbeck earned Phi Beta Kappa honors and holds a bacehlor’s degree in history from Colgate University.
