Shadella Davis is the new Smithsonian Ombuds

Beginning October 10, Davis will be available as an impartial advisor and facilitator to staff.

Doug Hall, the acting Under Secretary for Administration, has announced that Shadella Davis will become the new Smithsonian Ombuds (formerly known as the Ombudsman), effective October 10.

Since 2008, Davis has managed the Smithsonian’s Informal EEO Complaints Program in the Office of Equal Employment and Supplier Diversity. She has served as a subject-matter expert to Smithsonian leadership; attorneys in the Office of General Counsel; labor and employee relations colleagues; the SI Ombudsman; the SI Civil Program Manager; employees and affiliated persons; applicants for employment; contractors; and external complainant representatives. Her expertise in EEO laws, regulations, directives and polices, and the EEO Discrimination Complaint Process, as well as her demonstrated ability to devise strategies to resolve disputes make her the ideal person to fill the position of Ombuds.

The Smithsonian Ombuds is a neutral party to whom employees and affiliated staff can bring any work-related problem, concern or complaint that cannot be resolved through typical mitigation steps. The Ombuds will respect confidentiality when requested, will listen to the problem, and discuss steps to help you reach a fair resolution.

The Ombuds provides assistance:

  • as a facilitator,
  • as a sounding board,
  • as a neutral voice,
  • as an impartial ear,
  • as a confidential advisor.

Shadella Davis replaces Dania Palosky, who has served as Ombuds since 2017.
