Veteran strategist joins Smithsonian’s social media team

Hillary-Morgan Watt has joined the Smithsonian’s central Office of Public Affairs as Social Media Creative Strategist, effective Oct. 4.

In this new role, Watt will develop strategies for community partnerships, influencer engagement and videos to amplify the Smithsonian’s digital storytelling to a broader audience. She also serves as a social media co-lead on the Smithsonian Strategic Planning Implementation Team.

In this new role, Watt will develop strategies for community partnerships, influencer engagement and videos to amplify the Smithsonian’s digital storytelling to a broader audience. She also serves as a social media co-lead on the Smithsonian Strategic Planning Implementation Team.

Most recently, Watt was Director of Digital Engagement at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building. She previously managed digital engagement at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. With 16 years of experience in museums and galleries, she has led digital strategy workshops across the Smithsonian and lectured at the State Department, George Mason University, and Georgetown University.

A transplant from the Pacific Northwest, Watt received a B.F.A. degree from Southern Oregon University and a master’s degree in museum studies from George Washington University. She is an active member of ArtTable and an Adjunct Professor at GWU, teaching “Museums & Social Media” in the Graduate Museum Studies program.
