Federal and Trust staff pay increases effective Jan. 1

Secretary Bunch announces an average 4.6 percent increase that will be reflected in your Jan. 26, 2023 paycheck.

I am pleased to share some news with you about the annual pay adjustments for Smithsonian employees.  The federal government authorized a 4.1% increase annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for Federal non-senior employees that includes an approximate 0.5 percent locality pay increase, which reflects an overall average pay increase of 4.6%.  Specific pay increases are determined by locality, and OPM has issued a complete set of locality pay tables.

Additionally, I have approved the same COLA for all non-senior level Trust employees. This approval reaffirms my and the Institution’s commitment to ensuring that the pay systems between the Federal and Trust are sound and equitable. 

Increases for Federal and Trust employees will be effective January 1, 2023, and will be dispersed in employees January 26, 2023, paycheck.  The Office of Human Resources (OHR) will provide additional details regarding the pay increases.
