Do you have what it takes to be a leader? Applications sought for 2024 Emerging Leaders Development Program

Applications sought for 2024 Emerging Leaders Development Program

Applications are now being solicited for the 2024 Emerging Leaders Development Program. The 2024 ELDP is designed to provide learning and development opportunities for high-potential, high-performing GS/IS 11s and 12s (and grade equivalents in SE).

The ELDP is targeted to begin in March 2024. It will include proven leadership development program components such as presentations by executives and Smithsonian experts, multi-rater feedback, mentoring, core training programs, assigned readings, developmental assignments, and more. Selectees can anticipate spending a minimum of two days per month on ELDP and greater time commitments during certain phases (rotation required).

Due to the time demands of the program and the investment of unit funds (ELDP is not donor funded), applicants are required to discuss their potential participation with their supervisor. Applicants also should note that their supervisors must provide a recommendation (including the approval of unit leadership) for their application to be complete.

Information about the program and the application can be found on the ELDP main page. If you are interested in the program, you are encouraged to check the site regularly for updates since no further SI-wide announcements are anticipated.

An informational meeting will be held on Friday, December 8th from 1 – 2 p.m. Eastern via Zoom (details will be posted on the website). As a courtesy to other attendees, please read the Application Instructions, FAQs, and other documents on the website prior to attending.

The application deadline to receive all materials (including approvals) is Monday, December 18, 2023, at 5 p.m. Eastern. (NOTE: Some units have internal reviews as well which have earlier deadlines. See website for details.) Please note that an applicant’s package is not complete without the supervisor’s recommendation and the unit approval. See the FAQs for further information related to this deadline.

If you have questions after reading the documents on the website, please contact Trish McKim, mckimp@si.edu.

This is an EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:  All Smithsonian Institution employee applicants who meet the grade, ratings, and time in service criteria will receive consideration for this developmental opportunity without regard to race, color, gender, religion, age, national origin, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, or any other non-merit factor.
