David Purvis joins Smithsonian Enterprises

The new Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration began his new role February 20.

David Purvis will provide overall leadership, strategy and accountability for Smithsonian Enterprises Finance and Administration functions, including finance, accounting, human resources, contract administration and office management.

Headshot of David Purvis against dark teal backgroundPurvis brings more than 25 years of experience and an impressive skill set to this new role.  He has spent his career as a senior-level finance leader at well-known organizations such as WETA and Discovery Communications.  At WETA, he served as CFO, overseeing finance, accounting, IT, and research, while working alongside the CEO, COO, and Board of Trustees to maximize efficiency and growth.  Prior to WETA, Purvis served as the SVP of Finance at Discovery Communications, Inc. where he led financial oversight for the U.S. network of brands, a $3B+ revenue division, comprised of networks, digital, marketing, advertising and affiliate revenue, and studio and production businesses. Purvis holds a BA in English from the University of Richmond.

Smithsonian Enterprises oversees the commercial activities of the Institution with three primary business divisions: media, retail and consumer and education products.
