Congratulations to Zachary Folz!

Zachary Folz, of the Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystems Program (NMNH) is the winner of the autumn Windows Lock Screen Photo Contest with this beautiful shot.

Sunset shot of boat on the water at Carrie Bow Key

Zachary writes:

This photo was taken at the end of the day while we were monitoring corals near the Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystems Program based at Carrie Bow Cay, Belize. Our team had tagged over 300 Acropora corals, and we were monitoring how these corals grew, died or even moved on the reef. Branches and entire coral colonies sometimes broke off and rolled down the reef where they would later re-attach and grow. If you look closely, you can see that the topside researcher is wearing a winter hat, in an effort to warm up after a very long, shallow dive.

The new lock screen will be in place on all SI-managed Windows computers until December.

Submit your Photo to the Windows Lock Screen Photo Contest

Each season, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) installs a custom image on SI-managed Windows computers for the lock screen. This custom image is necessary to block Microsoft advertising on your desktop and creates a fun and exciting opportunity for Smithsonian professional and amateur photographers alike to showcase their photography. Staff can submit up to two photos throughout the quarter, and the top submissions will be open for an Institution-wide vote.

Review the Lock Screen Photo Contest page for all the photo submission requirements. The submission deadline for winter is December 6th.
