Fall film schedule

Smithsonian Theaters is proud to present it’s new fall line-up. Have am immersive experience on the biggest IMAX screens in Washington, D.C.,  (six stories tall!) and the area’s only full-dome digital Planetarium.

Air Racers – Opens Friday, Oct. 5 at the Airbus IMAX Theater (Udvar-Hazy Center)

Fly into Nevada’s “Valley of Speed” for a breathtaking exploration of the fastest race in the world combined with spectacular air show entertainment: the legendary Reno National Championship Air Races.

Flight of the Butterflies 3D – Opens Friday, Oct. 5 at the Johnson IMAX Theater (Natural History)

The monarch butterfly is a true marvel of nature.  Weighing less than a penny, it makes one of the longest migrations on Earth across a continent to a place it has never known. Follow the monarchs’ perilous journey and experience millions of them in the remote mountain peaks of Mexico, with breathtaking cinematography from an award winning team including Academy Award-winner Peter Parks. Be captivated by the true and compelling story of an intrepid scientist’s 40-year search to find their secret hideaway. Unravel the mysteries and experience the Flight of the Butterflies.

Staff and volunteers can see any one free daytime (non-Hollywood) film per week at any of the Smithsonian Theaters; an unlimited number of friends and family tickets may be purchased for $6.50 each. Staff and volunteers may also purchase an unlimited number of tickets for evening Hollywood screenings at a discounted rate of $10.00 – a savings of $5.00 off the standard admission price.

The reduced rate tickets for friends and family must be purchased in-person at a Smithsonian Theaters box office (Air and Space, Natural Histor and Udvar-Hazy).  Presentation of your Smithsonian ID is required to receive the discounted rate.
