OHR welcomes Angela Ameen as Associate Director

Angela Ameen is the Smithsonian’s Associate Director for Human Resources, effective Sept. 4.

Ameen has more than 20 years of experience in key positions within several Federal agencies in areas such as employee and labor relations, staffing and recruitment, classification, compensation and benefits, reasonable accommodation programs, training and development, human capital strategy, and EEO programs.

Since 2011, has served as the Director of Workforce Development and Performance Management at the Department of Commerce. During her tenure at Commerce, Ameen held multiple roles, including Acting Director, Human Resources – FirstNet, and Acting Deputy Director, Human Resources Operations Center. From 2007 to 2011, she was Branch Chief, Employee Relations at the National Science Foundation. From 2004 to 2007, she served as a Human Resources Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency  and prior to joining EPA, held various roles at the United States Postal Service from 1995 to 2004.
