Alma mater awards Secretary Bunch one of its highest honors

Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch was presented the Cyrus A. Ansary medal by the American University in Washington, D.C., during the 2020 President’s Circle Celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 27. AU President Sylvia Burwell and Secretary Bunch had a conversation on how history can prepare us to lead for the future.

One of American University’s highest honors, the Cyrus A. Ansary Medal is awarded to members of the university community who have displayed extraordinary commitment and leadership both within the university and within their professions; and who hold notable accomplishments, either in service to AU or for the benefit of the community at large. The award is named for American University Board Chairman Emeritus Cyrus Ansary.

Secretary Bunch Bunch received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from AU in 1974 and 1976, respectively.
